Interesting Angles

I used to own a series of Roald Dahl's books on cassette; during long road trips and much to my parents' relief, I would listen to his voice narrate in rapt silence. Dahl wrote one of my favorite stories, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". In this story, eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka takes young Charlie Bucket on a ride in his "Wonka-vator" which, unlike traditional elevators, can go "sideways and slantways and longways and backways". I imagined myself inside this strange machine. Although it doesn't exist, the closest I've come is behind the camera where I'm free to shoot sideways and slantways and every other way imaginable, and with the same sense of magic Charlie felt as he and Mr. Wonka flew higher into the clouds.
